Though sometimes used on large table lamps, these glass dome lamp shades are typically found on hanging fixtures and early style library lamps from early American and Victorian times. During the kerosene era these "hanging lamps" were often the center of domestic activity after sundown and, especially when entertaining house guests, hence the elaborate forms and beautiful decorations.
